Been struggling for a few days trying to think of a way of creating an associative part family table in drafting when using a master model approach.
If you have the part family xls as a separate file, it seems possible to link it in to the embedded excel workbook for both driving the model & the drafting table.
So, here is what i've done (in NX12):
Create the part family as normal within NX & excel, then 'save as' the workbook to push the data out of NX.
From the part family table (in excel), use data/get_data/from_file to locate the external part family workbook & the data will now be linked.

To create the drawing table its slightly different as you want to dictate the linked cells rather than the complete workbook.
So, create a tabular note in drafting. Select it, and choose "edit in spreadsheet". Then from that session of excel open the source workbook you created earlier. You can now use excel functions to link the cells between workbooks.

To refresh the data, within the part family workbook select data/refresh all, for the drafting table, edit in spreadsheet & then open the source workbook.

Initial trials seem to be working ok, children have generated & tables updated, but please push the routine around to see if there are any issues, and i've yet to try in the latest NX version.

This is of course reliant that you have your PLM system configured to accept an excel workbook.
