I am seeking an equation to determine load deflection characteristic of rectangular plate which is clamped or fixed on 4 corners with distributed load (the weight of the plate itself) plus a concentrated load at centre of the plate. Can any one help?

Appreciated.

try Roark for something close

Hi Arto, can you elaborate what Roark is?

Regards,

"Formulas for Stress and Strain" by Roark and Young is the reference.

Also it is also a generally assumed assumption that the deflection for multiple loads is the sum of each load applied individually.

Superposition and Roark's Formulas are reasonably accurate for small deflection. Roark does offer some modifications to consider plasticity and large deflection. Make certain you know what you are looking at when you get the answer...

In the site below you can calculate clamped plates with small and large deflections.

Get a copy of the classic, Timoshenko or Timoshenko and Young, or Timoshenko and Woinosky-Krieger "Theory of Plates and Shells", McGraw Hill, ( I have the 2nd edition of the latter , 1959). You should be able to find a reasonable estimate from a wealth of formulae there.Or based on your very special boundaries, you may be able to to formulate and solve the equations analytically.
If you are doing any seious work in this area you must beg, borrow or steal a copy of this truly great book . It is out of print but Ebay, for one, is a source.

Just got a copy of your suggestion Zekeman. Absolute beauty for my collection. Thanks, I'm giving you one of those lovely purple stars!
