Plane on Surface is Offset?

I'm trying to create a plane on a cylindrical surface. I know, pretty straight forward. However, the plan is created offset from the surface, and I cannot determine why. Has anyone run into something like this before? Using SW2005.

Can you measure the offset? Or is it just a visual anomaly?

Increase the image quality in tools-> options -> doc props -> image quality

No, there's a definite offset ~7/8". This is a plane created in an assembly. If I create the plane in the actual part, everything works as expected.

Can you list the steps you use to create the plane?

Created one plane that is at an angle of 15 degrees from the front plane. Then selected this new plane, and selected the cylindrical surface. The plane is created offset from the surface.

In the attached image, the plane on the surface was created at the part level, while the plane offset from the surface was created at the assembly level. Both were created using the same technique discussed above.

I think I may be confused. Why not create both planes either in the part or both in the assy?

I ended up using the one in the part, but am more curious as to why the one in the assembly didn't work. Was just wondering if anyone had run into a similar situation.

Which option in the Plane Manager are you using when selecting the angled plane & cylindrical surface?

Strange ... it works fine for me at home, but would not create a plane at work.
Can you reproduce the problem in other assemblies?

I cannot reproduce your problem. Exit Solidworks and restart it. Maybe it was a fluke, it happens sometimes.

Can't reproduce in other assemblies, but it is consistent in this assembly. Oh well, I can get away with creating the plane in the part.
