Placing Cells on Non-Displayed Levels

Here's a helpful glitch in V8.1 (!);

I have a cell library I got off the web - over a year ago - and, well, let's say I want to place a cell. No problem you say?

Ha!

Here's what I get:

! Elements were placed on non-displayed levels

What a helpful message! First of all, WHY would the cell be placed on a non-displayed level? Hmmm, I don't see a level associated with the particular cell or a way to set it to a particular level - it ought to show up on the active, no? Level locks or any other locks have nothing to do with this it seems. And secondly, what kind of a [explicative deleted] programs an error message that gives only half the answer? What, did Bentley hire-away Microsoft's best people? this blows because I am either going to spend an hour hunting and pecking though all the levels I have or I'm going to abandon this nifty cell library.

Let's try the "help" and see what it has to offer:

====================
Controlling the level on which cells are placed
The Relative tool setting for the Place Active Cell tool and Select and Place Cell tool controls the level(s) on which a graphic cell is placed.

If Relative is off, a graphic cell is placed on the same level(s) as it was created (absolute placement).

If Relative is on, a graphic cell is placed on a level or levels relative to the Active Level. For example, consider a graphic cell that was created with elements on levels 5, 7, and 8. If Relative is on and the Active Level is 1, the cell is placed on levels 1, 3, and 4. If the Active Level is 45, the cell is placed on levels 45, 47, and 48.

Holy cow! what a PITA.

But, checking "relative" did the trick. Argh.
