when i rename parts I use the Design assistent.
And it works fine!

When you open your assembly in Inventor it will prompt you that the file you renamed is missing. It will then ask you if you want to browse for the location of the file. Just browse to the file you renamed and choose it. Inventor will then update your assembly.
