Can someone please explain the P1, P2, P3 platforms and their use? We are mystified at this time.

For example in P1 you cannot hae photostudio license, and in a functions like sweep in GSD toolbar you have less options

Because in P1 you don't have GSD, you have GS1.
P3 is also where you find all the immersive design products.

Let me get this straight. If I operate in P2 I have a certain number of workbenches based on license configuration X. In P3 you are saying now I have more workbenches based upon the same license configuration?
The licensing scheme is confusing enough, now I have to worry about what user interface I'm working in?

It's just a marketing scheme. It shouldn't really affect you (the user) at all. It's like how Microsoft sticks different functionality into different "versions" of windows. If P1 is like Windows Server, P2 is like Advanced Server and P3 is like Datacenter Server.
You don't have to worry about what user interface you are working in. Just pick one you like. You don't have to have the P3 interface selected in Options to run Platform 3 packages. I run the P2 interface at all times but I use Aerospace Sheet Metal, for example, which is a P3 product.

No... the licence configuration determines which workbenches you have access too. If you are running MD2 and change to the P3 interface you won't get more products.

That "windows" analogy isn't quite right, but it suits the purpose.
Different licence configurations are available at different platforms. The biggest-baddest configuration, for example, is called AL3, which is a Platform 3 licence configuration.
Unless you are in charge of buying/licencing CATIA, don't worry about the platform levels. That's for the business folk

I would like to explain you the difference between P1 & P2
in simplicity.
P1 has a basic coverage of the functionals.
P2 has more functions .I will explain you with example.
If you are using a draft feature in Part design.
In P1 you can give simple drafts,using neutral element,
Parting element etc.Here if you wish to add a draft which maintain a tangency with existing curvature,it would be difficult to maintain ,for that you may have to adapt other approaches of modeling,it would be time consuming.
If you are working in P2 you have advance Draft feature which help you to draft using reflect line option.This will fulfil your needs.
