Strange, because at work I installed IE7 and NX4 worked, but they just gave me a laptop and I upgraded to IE7 and NX4 didn't work. Work has XP Pro, and Laptop XP sp2.
Hi,
it is very likely that the combination XP-SP2 + IE7 interacts in such a way that makes NX4 misworking. In fact, when it was issued, SP2 made several disasters with a LOT of programs...
There's a difference between INSTALLING software and UPGRADING...
If one were to do a separate INSTALL of IE7 and make sure IE6 was still able to work, then NX should still work. However, if you UPGRADE to IE7 (overwrite IE6), then it probably won't.
You would probably get a quicker response if you didn't hijack a thread and ask a question that was completely out of context.
Regardless, in the NX4 Release Notes section of the Documentation, it states the following:
Windows XP is the supported NX 4 32-bit Windows operating system. Microsoft has discontinued general support for Windows 2000 as of July 2005. Although customers may choose to continue to use Windows 2000, it is no longer tested and it is not supported by UGS. Problems reported on Windows 2000 will be addressed only if they can be duplicated on Windows XP.
I hope that helps. It would probably be in your best interest in the long run to encourage your I/T folks to upgrade your O/S to XP Pro SP2 if at all possible.
Also, you can usually find out all this information on the UGS GTAC support site either by looking in the posted documentation or by using UGAnswer.
Well.....let me rephrase. I INSTALLED IE7 on both computers. IE6 is, or was not available on either box. BTW, uninstalling IE7 on the laptop messed up IE6 a bit. Now I can't use java based buttons in the browser. Kinda strange.
Thanks Tim for your kind answer
I did see a link between WinXP and IE7, I am pretty sure the IT guys here will probably install it (IE7) by default on the XP machines so I chose to ask my question here in a "related" thread, since it seems the only available update I shouldn't do when we switch to XP is go with IE7. We have admin rights on our machines so the users will need to know this information to make sure NX stays functional.
You're right though about the GTAC, I am new here and I don't have the web key account yet to access that information.
Try uninstalling and then re-installing Java, if possible. I've had Java get corrupted a few times on my PC at home and a clean install usually took care of the problems.
It was there to resolve a transition issue when we moved from Windows NT to Windows 2000. When we moved to Windows XP we no longer needed the file, but no one caught that and the system never complained, that is until IE7 came along.

John, to make things clear (if you can answer that), is that (the dll file) the only issue between NX and IE7 that made UGS say they were not compatible? Or is there still something else that would interfere with the functionality of NX if IE7 is installed? Thanks : )
I have IE7 installed on two Workstations and a Laptop, all of which are running combinations of NX2, NX3, NX4 and NX5. To date, I've not had ANY problems.
