Noise Calculations for Pipe Flow 2

Can you direct me to some noise calculations regarding fluid flow in small pipes?

Specifically, I have 4" Nominal Pipe. The different fluids I am looking at are Water, CO2, and a production stream comprised of water/oil/gas.

This is a good question. I need to look in my references for this one. I know that the control valve sizing softwares (Fisher, Jamesbury etc.) will calculate the noise due to the flow through the valve, but I don't know the fundamentals behind their calcs. Gotta look it up. Thanks!

I think CAMPBELL has some rules of thumb (the vol. are at work and im home now). Anyway i think that valves make the most noise and mostly for steam and gas at some pressure drop. Steam can be rather noisy and 7 barg.

An excellent resource that covers this and noise from rotating equipment is A Reduced-Noise Gas Flow Design Guide, which has been developed for the NASA Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field by Nelson Acoustical Engineering of Elgin, Texas.

This is an extensive written guide and accompanying excel spreadsheet that covers all areas of gas flow noise estimation. It USED TO BE available online at NASA Glenn Research Center, but was removed after 9/11/01.
