Need help with symbol interpretation

When a groove weld joint is already partially beveled and a you specify a symbol with a v groove but do not specify the depth of the groove, is it interpreted as weld through the bevel into the backside or just start from the bottom of the v-groove. See my alternate interpretations in the attachment. The reason why I ask this is AWS A2.4, Figure 20F seems to imply this.

I think you should ask the engineer what it intent was.

If there is no depth of preparation indicated in the symbol, it is assumed to be full penetration. Your interpretation 'B'.
 
The generic V-groove symbol without any dimensions is a CJP.
