Hello,

What is the NDE requirements for by-passes welds on cast valves per ASME or API? Do codes require MPI on bypass welds or it is just an industry practice?

thank you,

MRSohrabi;
Material and Welding Eng.

Why would you think that these NDE requirements would be any less?

As ASME B16.34 just talk about body and bonnet NDE and doesn't mention any thing about bypasses.
I want to know that the requirements can be apoed for bypasses?

MSOHRABI,
API 6D doesn't require obligatory NDTs. Instead, if your client requires NDTs then you shall perform them as specified in Annex A of API 6D. For example if MT on welds is specified by the customer, you shall perform it as specified in clause A.13 of Annex A. Please have a look at this link:NDTs on Ball Valve as per API 6D
regards,

That's what we are trying to get you to understand: How can there be any difference in NDE on a valve exposed to the same pressure and temperature as the main-line valve?

Do you think a bypass valve somehow sees less energy than the main-line valve it is next to?

Valve Bypass Piping are subjected to the same NDE Requirements are your valve's main piping.
