I need to connect a few beams to a column. I want to use a circular steel column but im worried the amount of beams that will be connected to the column will weaken the column with all the welds on it. Am i overthinking it or would the welds make the column stronger?

A sketch would help.

A sketch of the situation would be helpful.

I can't see welding strengthening a column in any way that I'd want to rely upon.

If you're welding to a column that will be carrying load during the welding, that warrants some consideration.

Are we talking about single shear tab connections carrying only shear?

A sketch would help.
I attached a quick sketch. I would prefer to use circular piles but the amount of close welds worry me since I never made that many close welds before on a circular pile.

Column won't be significantly weakened by the welds. You'll have to deal with distortion though.
