Does anyone here know anything about multi orifice energy dissipating valves, what are available, which are better, etc?

They are usually called mutli-stage valves or anti-cavitation valves. The best one would be dependent on what the specific service is.

CCI has had a "Self-drag" style valve for over 40 yrs, and it works well in steam / gas service where there is a large pressure drop ,and acoustically choked flow is prevented by causing frictional choking, and this reduces the noise issues well. But if you use the same design in liquid service to prevent cavitation one often finds the disc stack acts as a filter and plugs up with debris over time. The patent has run out for this technology , and other competitors offer an equivalent product to the "Self drag" design".

For liquid service, there is the Fisher Cavitrol-IV and the Yarway Turbo-cascade style valves , but the size may be limited to 6" NPS max. These avoid cavitation well, and do not suffer the same pluggage issues as the "self drag" in liquid service.

Many other valve mfrs offer valves with multiple stages of coencentric perforated cages, but I do not think they work as well as the 2 styles described above- but that is just my opinion.
