Moving parts to another sub-assembly

Often when designing a machine I end up with several parts in an assembly that I would like to move into a new sub-assembly. Sometimes I am able to successfully drag them in the assembly navigator from the assembly to a new sub-assembly and sometimes I loose the constraints. Is there a better way to separate an assembly into subs without loosing all the constrains?

You can't move components from one level to another (i.e. into a sub-assembly) and retain their constraints.

Thank you for the info.

If I take the whole assembly, perform a file save as new drawing number. Then open the new drawing number and delete the unwanted stuff, I esentaill have my new sub. The insert the new sub and delte the unwanted out of the oiginal... This process seems to work for me. Is this the generally acepted best practice?

Yes, there's no problem with that. It's just moving parts on a component-by-component basis, we have not yet attempted to provide a scheme for trying to retain existing constraints.
