Please can anyone advise on below

1, Minimum distance between two butt joints plate 2.5" thick for steel structure according AWS D1.1

2, Will there be a requirement to PWHT these welds if the HAZ material grade ASTM A514

1. AWS does not state a limit to my recollection.
2. PWHT for AWS D1.1 is at the discretion of the engineer. AWS does not specify it. Manufacturers of A514 do not recommend PWHT though.
