Can anyone give me any advise on the minimum amount of shear connection to be use when doing composite beam design?

After reading AISC 13 Edition commentary, it appears that they suggest an advisory minimum of 50%, and recommend 25% as the absolute minimum. At 25% AISC warns against "large rotations of members", "early departures from elastic behavior" and "very limited ductility after nominal strength is reached". I am finding that degree of shear connection of 50% does not yield practical results, and range 25% to 30% does.

Any suggests on what a good design value is?

40-50%. You end up with about 1.3 studs per foot.

If you are only using that much composite go to a smaller beam. You usually want long beams and large spacings to get better composite designs
