I am looking into purchasing some math software to do a variety of things for pressure vessel design. One of the things I will need is symbolic integration (not as good at integrating as I used to be), where I am able to set up the integral but i am not able to solve it. Another thing I would like, if it exists, is the ability to solve volumes of intersections of two shapes. The canidates are maple, mathematica, and mathcad. So far the mathcad looks the most promising since the syntax is easy. I am not looking at pressure vessel software, this is to supplement that. If anyone has any experience with these packages, please comment on them.

MathCad is very easy to use and powerful.

Depending of what version of mathcad! Did have the ASME DIV. 1, calculation and the NBIC Exam Problem Set. in 2003.

ASME SECTION 1, I still use mathcad.

Otherwise CODEWARE COMPRESS: ASME DIV. 1, ASME DIV. 2, EXCHANGER ASME PART UHX. RE:(BECHTEL GOBLE STANDARD)

If you are in the USA, NASA offers a free pressure vessel software. You have to fill out a form and send/fax it in and register on the www.
