I have recieved a file with the .M01 extention file, after some fair bit of headbanging and googling I find that Bentley Microstation maybe the application to download to open this.

Anyway I have installed this software but it does not allow me to open an .m01 file as it is not listed under the supported filetypes.

I know the data I have in the M01 file contains files to plot point cloud data with nodes.

oitsonlikedonkeykong, the MO1 is a MicroStation resource file that stores customizations like toolbars and pull down menus. It is not directly opened in MicroStation but loaded when it is located in the interfaces folder.

If you say your M01 file is suppose to be lidar or point cloud data I would find out what device collected the data. I checked the MicroStation V8i (SELECTseres 3) release of the software and there is not point cloud attachment for a M01 file type. Have you tried opening the file in Notepad? It could be a simple ASCII file.
