Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a lower cost alternatives for 4142 steel bar. Any ideas?

You didn't provide enough details about your application. If you are machining your part(s) from bar stock <3-1/2" diameter and 150ksi UTS is acceptable, you might take a look at etd 150. The raw material itself is probably not lower cost than 4142, but you can save money on heat treatment and associated processing.

We receive the raw materials as a hot-rolled 4142 steel bar with various size (length about 25' to 30', and diameter about 0.625", 0.75", 1.0", 1.125", 1.25". We do forging and then heat treatment on the rods in house. The mechanical properties requirements are 85k psi for minimum yield, 110k psi min tensile and 140k psi for max tensile.
