Hi, I am looking for ideas on how to laser mark tool steel coated in ZrN without breaking the ZrN layer exposing the Tool steel. (Due to the part being used in a wet environment it will rust). Any ideas would be great.
I've seen someone use a coating for this in the past. I think it was some kind of moly based liquid. He put a light coating of it on a piece of stainless steel, he then set his laser to engrave some letters. The coating fused to the stainless wherever the beam hit it and when it was done he washed away the excess coating. It was pretty durable. Since this is adding material instead of removing it, it may be what you need. I could find out what the coating is if you want, it will take me a few days.

Product is called CerMark metal marking solution, it now comes in a spray or paste."
In return, I only ask that you let us all know how it works out for you.
Hi Krugtech,
I ordered the spray and it worked well enough, the thing was it was hard to control the amount sprayed on. too little and it burned through, too much and it didn't mark it at all. Thanks for all the help though.
