The owner wants me to ask this. Is there a way to let a 2000w laser set all winter in a below freezing building?

There are a few issues here. One, Amada does not use Glycol or any additive of that type in their cooling system. If there is any water in the laser... Next, I think the machine will rust like a sob. Anytime there is a slight increase in temp, condensation will form. Last, I have never seen this for my self, I do not know if it is true. I have heard that the LCD display screen can freeze. That wouldn't be the end of the world but not fun.
All in all, the water is the biggest problem. If you can run some antifreeze in the chiller before it goes into storage it may be, not too bad.

Don`t you use any special substance to add to the cooling, just use demi water. On the lasermachine
you have function cold auto aging. You can use this to slowly warming up your machine. The downside is its uses a more lasergas then you normally do but is worth it. I`ve done it for more then 5 years and it also good for your internal mirrors. I use the internal resonator mirrors for 10.0000 hours and after that i changed them.

If you go much below freezing, it may indeed kill any LCD type screens - including whatever PC LCD monitors you may have in the shop.
Demineralized water? that will freeze just fine.
For that matter, don't forget the chiller - it won't like freezing, either.
You could probably tent the machine and give it a thermostatic heater to keep it above freezing. Just remember all the other stuff that has water in it.

I wouldn't like any of our equipment subject to cold conditions for an extended period of time. I would think you would have to winterize it somehow, maybe Amada has a procedure. I would certainly circulate some sort of antifreeze with additives in it before storing it. otherwise you will have to remove all lines with water and blow out everything with nitrogen or something till there is no chance of water pooling up and freezing damaging it somehow. Given a choice, I would store it where it won't be freezing. I think Amada uses water because it removes heat better, I don't think they would object to circulating antifreeze to winterize it, but ask them.
