I might be getting a contract to do the engineering for the installation of a large laser. I have never worked on a laser and so have a few questions:

1. The customer seems to think some components are too large for optical tables. Is there any guide lines for this?

2. He wants to have "targets" on each component. I believe he then wants to use a theodolyte and the targets to do the alignment.

3. What device can be used to perform the alignment. The laser is 60 ft long. How can we remount the installation tool into the same spot 6 months or a year later. The customer seems to want a theodolyte, a surveyors instrument.

Survey equipment is a common tool for aligning large assemblies or measuring datum targets on lets say Satellites or other large spacecrafts.
