Does anybody wants to speak about iterative methods for frame and shear walls Analysis?

Almost all engineering softwares nowadays offer nonlinear inelastic solution capabilities of different natures. It depends on the purpose of your analysis, whether it is for design or stress-deformation related work. STAAD3, for instance, has the capability of solving a structural problem iteratively to account for progressive changes in the structural configuration, and to my knowledge, the material response is always assumed elastic. Other softwares however, such as LUSAS, ANSYS and many others, offer a wide range of material and structural nonlinearities either independently or coupled.
azmi ibrahim
azmi@civil.engr.itm.edu.my

I'm always keen to learn more to advance
myself in areas that I'm interested in.

Could you clarify your question? Are you referring to computer methods or methods like moment distribution?

Imagineer

If you want we adress something specific we may talk about...on the other hand it is clear that FEM marks much the end of this kind of applications (once you have the FEM able program) since you gain greater accuracy to negligible effort.

I only have programmed FEM in Mathcad...then curiously had to resource to the old stuff of theorems of Maxwell, Mohr, (or whomever it is attributed to) to set the basical elements etc. So the thing is not dead, but buried alive in the programs we use. However if you see something very useful and simlple to program, I would be glad to look at and even maybe program it in Mathcad, it is always nice to have something neat that is useful.
