Does anyone have experience with the iSpan joist system.
A client wants to use these proprietary cold-formed metal joists on a project instead of typical open-web steel joists and metal roof deck. I'm gathering info from the manufacturer and learning about the system. Just curious if there are any issues that anyone experienced that I should work to avoid.

Thanks,

RD

As with any light system, vibration must be considered.

Generally found their engineering support to be pretty good. But we did have one instance in a custom house where they upsized a steel beam that we had originally sized for gravity loads. They said it had to be upsized for vibration concerns. I have never seen such a large beam in a residential application. If I remember correctly the steel beam was at least 4x the weight to the one we specified, and we are usually conservative to start in high end custom homes.
