Hello,

What is the best way to go about identifying and existing joist from the 90's with the following information?:

Span 48 ft.
Top Chord: (2) L2.5x2.5X1/4
Bottom Chord: (2) L2X2X3/16
32" deep.

There are so many suppliers, you won't really be able to get a definitive answer without more information.

I do know that the Steel Joist Institute has a form that you can submit the information you have and they'll try providing a manufacturer etc. But I don't know if you have given enough information.

Often the web members varied from supplier to supplier with some liking angles, others liking rounds, etc.

To what end do you want to know more? If the joist is double angle chords and solid rod webs, you've pretty well got all the information you need to analyze and/or check the design.

From an old Vulcraft table (chord angle sizes vs. chord number) this suggests a #10 chord joist or larger....like a 32H10 or 32H11 perhaps.

I assume there was no bar joist tag on one of the ends of the joist. One from the 90s should have one I would think.
