Hi

Suppose there are two bodies.. One in green and other in red. When boolean operation Unite is done, the unite feature will be either red or green depending on which is the parent..

Is there a way to keep the red and green colors on those bodies even after Unite

Go to...

Preferences -> Modeling -> General

...and change the 'Boolean Face Properties from' option to 'Tool Body'.

Now this will cause those faces of the bodies which are NOT merged into a single face, to retain there original colors. Now faces which ARE merged into a single face, as the result of a Boolean Add, these merged faces will inherit the color of the Tool Body.

Hi John,

Suppose I have a block of 100X100X50 .. Then split it into two at middle of Y axis.. Then remove the parameters to make them separate solids. Then use object display property and exit the color of one of the solid to red. the other half is green..

When I set the preferences, general , Boolean face properties from tool body, then it assigns the color of the tool body to all the faces.. when I do view sectioning, the inside is red for united feature..

Now my question was, I want to unite the bodies , but keep the colors at the half way as they were before..

It would be ideal to have one more option of default under the boolean face properties which would maintain the colors..

Let's reiterate: With the Preference set as described, faces which are merged into a SINGLE face (as in NO seam down the middle) will inherit the color of the Tool Body. Those faces which are NOT merged will retain their original color. NX has ALWAYS merged faces whenever possible when they're the result of a Boolean operation. That's just the way NX works.
