i've been fighting guitar neck volutes for a while now.


finally got the nerve up to learn ISDX.

nice. i spend more time on capturing shapes than the mechanical components.


my clients need this more than hardware.

Those images look awesome, what rendering package are you using?

what kind of problems?


the rendering with the green tile is before i started using ISDX. plus, i used an STL conversion to export into my rendering program. so, what you may be seeing is a result of the triangulation.


the screen grab of pro/e is with ISDX features. curve and surface anal looked good.

this particular project is to document a builders existing product line. he sent me a body and neck to use for my modeling.


i agree, sharp corners are a big no-no.


this model is currently a work in progress. so, a lot of final detail hasn't been done yet.


i was just excited about ISDX and how friendly it is with creating curvature level connections.

Now I am using WF 2 - Much more improvements than in WF 1
and ProE 2001 - Now you have much more control of those "non controllable"
stuff :) I love it -

I have doubts that WF 2 is makeup - but - I was wrong - He is much more stable,
much more powerful, with several new great features - But - now I must find a
way to implement those in my work - I will lose myself in those huge amount on
possible techniques for work :)

i use 3D Studio MAX for all my renderings. Thanks for the compliment.

Ptc and AW has compatibility which Max don
 
Maya and Alias Studio sure do rule.


I agree, file exchange between Pro/E and the A/W apps are hard to beat.


I've struggled with Pro/E to STL to 3DS to MAX for years. Always with smoothing challenges.


BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's a new converter in town called NPower Translator:

A plugin importer/exporter that brings IGES files into MAX PERFECTLY. i've used the demo a few times and i love it. will buy soon!

fhodshon: any chance a couple of screenshots showing the model tree and datum features you're using?
 
I use polytrans, as it was the first developed exclusively to take
Pro/E slp to Lightwave. It also supports HUGE IGES files, and will
optimize the geometry and help retain heirarchy to the rendering apps.

Iges are absolute - for me - When I export some very rounder
surfaces or objects (parts) I get "gaps" - space between surfaces.
Obj is already in ProE - and I don
 
Why are you using a bolt-on neck vs. neck-through construction?
 
all my basses are bolt on.
