How is everyone backing up Intralink data? I've done a little searching, but not coming up with anything...

How do you backup Intralink?

How is any server that stores data backed up? I have no idea about the mechanics of how this is actually done but our IT department backs up the data from the CAD system servers/disks in the same manner that they back up all the other centrally stored data.
I imagine it goes along the lines of: big server writes data to a disk, at regular intervals all the new/modified files are copied to a non-volatile storage device eg DVD/Tape etc. These are then placed in a fire-proof safe. Surely this is all fairly well automated too, if you google "server backup tools" you get a load of hits.

Yes, that is how most IT departments handle backups. But is it the proper method, NO!
You need to do at least two additional things to ensure you have a backup that can restore your Intralink 3.x system to a working condition. One is a cross reference listing of the Intralink file name to the OS filename. The second thing is to shutdown Intralink, both the fileserver and the dataserver, before doing the backup.
If you are working with a Windchill-based solution, you also have the same considerations.
