HOLE CALLOUT FORMAT FILE

I have altered the hole callout format file to have "(<NUM_INST>) HOLES" at the end of each hole callout. By default Solidworks still puts "Number of Instances X" at the begining of the hole callout, which we have to delete everytime. Is there a way to get rid of the "Number of Instances X" at the begining of the hole callout?

Why not just ask ANSI/ASME to change the standard?

bjacobi1 ... sorry, I did not mean to sound so sarcastic. The "Number of Instances X" at the begining of the hole callout is the ANSI/ASME standard way of denoting the quantity. It makes sense to use it as it is recognised by most industries.

I believe the <NUM_INST> is hard-coded into the programme & can only be removed manually. Although, some of the API gurus here may know of a way to use a macro to strip it from the dimensions.

Actually there is a text file in your SW program directory under \lang\english called "calloutformat.txt" and "calloutformat2.txt" , these control to some extent how they are interpreted. Check the help on here's a brief "Hole callouts use Hole Wizard information when a hole has been created by the Hole Wizard. The default formats for the Hole Wizard types are stored in installation directory\lang\<language>\calloutformat.txt. A second file, calloutformat_2.txt, is a simplified version. You can edit either file. If you want to use the second file, you must rename the file to calloutformat.txt, which is the file name the SolidWorks software references. You can set the location of the default folder for Hole Callout Format File in Tools, Options, System Options, File Locations.

The number of instances is included in the hole callout if multiple holes with the same format are created in the Hole Wizard."
