Hi all! I am a geotechnical engineer in Auckland modelling various soil nail wall at the moment. Question is : why does SlopeW require the first point of the soil nails to be above the geometry where it is inserted? I can't see the difference in the results between starting above the geometry or on the geometry line.

Please help!!

Thanks!

:-)

The difference probably has to do with how the program finds the point of intersection between the surface geometry and the nail -

Sometimes roundoff errors in computers can wreak havoc. It's probably an effort to prevent divide by zero-type problems.

I know this doesn't answer you question but you will find the program SLIDE from Rocscience is much better for reinforcement in slopes than SLOPE/W
