Have an existing centirfugal pump to be reused for a hydrocarbon fluid with a viscosity of 500cPoise - pump curves are based on water - know any method for prediction of effect on curves - especially concerned about efficiency and estimation of motor size.
 
Pumping this viscous a fluid will have two effects:

1. Head will be decreased over the head curve you have
2. Motor load will be increased.

The correction method is easy to do, at least one source is Cameron's fluid flow book and I suspect most pump books will go through it also. If nothing else, if you contact your pump vendor they may have a copy to send you.
 
remember also to make correction for changed density (wont change head but power will change)

Thanks - have found the HI nomograms and fitted equations in spreadsheet to predict curve changes due to viscosity (as well as usual impeller and speed changes). Available for anybody if they want a copy! Ask me on info@langleyventures.co.za
