H1 steel 1

Hi,

I am looking for specifications (composition, properties, TT) for H1 steel. Does anyone know about this (no idea what norms it comes from) ?

H1 is an old German pressure vessel carbon steel per DIN 17155.
Max. C 0.16% Mn 0.4-1.2%
Rm20= 360 MPa
Re20= 235 MPa

I'd say ASTM 516 Grade 70 would be a close modern analog. It has a bit higher carbon max (.27 to .31 depending on thickness) but the manganese range is .85 to 1.2. the sulphur is .04 max and the phosphorus is .035 max. the silicon is from .15 to .30.

It is a fine grain pressure vessel steel with good cold notch toughness. 90 ksi UTS and 38 ksi Yeild. it is a Group 1 material for welding, same as A36.

ASTM A36 has a similar carbon and managese range but I would not use it for pressure vessels or in cold temps but it would be fine for other purposes.
