GE Elec Motor from the 50's Heating Load?

Hi,

I have been asked to have a contractor to place a sound encloser around a 50's model GE motor that was 2000 hp and sometime in the last 12 years was rewound to be 2500 hp. Since it was rewound GE will not give me even a suggestion of the heating load and the amount of air needed to cool it. What would be the best way to calculate this.

If whatever the motor is driving is outside of the enclosure 20% of the input power is probably a reasonable first SWAG.

If you want to do it a bit more scientific measure the surface temperature and set up a simple heat transfer model. Solve for the heat load.
 
My understanding of rewound rotors and stators is that a slightly heavier guage wire is used meaning less heat generated, therefore, use the original heat load to be on the safe side.
