GD&T of magnets

Can anyone tell me the proper way to GD&T magnets with their orientation, polarization, etc., or where I might be able to track down such information? Thanks!!

Just do GD&T on the physical part. There isn't GD&T for orientation and polarization. You may need a note for grain direction, depending on the material.

As Chris mentioned, I do not believe there is symbology for magnetism in mechanical drafting, but there may be some in electrical drafting. Don't a bried yahoo search, I found this link that may point you in the right direction:


It's dealing with electro-magnets, but may have some clues to answer your question.

Here are some notes that I put on my last drawing for a Neodymium magnet.

Magnets Rare-Earth Neodymium-Iron-Boron Magnet

Shape - Disc

Dimension - Diameter 0.250" (6.35mm) x Thickness 0.100" (2.54mm)

Material - Sintered NdFeB

Magnetization - Magnetized

Magnetization Direction - Axially Magnetized

Plating – Nickel

Temperature Range (Deg C) - 0 to 80

Dimensional Tolerance - (+/-0.005")

Grade N30

Pull Force - 2.14lb/971g
