I have a flat ringtype gasket (class 300 NPS 3) made of synthetic fiber + nitrile binder. For the flange calculation I need too choose a material from Table 2-5.1 (p.355 ASME BPVC Sect.8 Div.1) to get the factors m an y.
Which of the listed should i choose?

Are you designing your flange from "scratch" or are you using an ASME B16.5 flange?

The best way to answer your question is to ask the manufacturer - it's their gasket, they know how to design using it.

CLAUDE47, it would be best to get the numbers from the manufacturer, but in the absence of firm data you would probably be OK to use the group "Asbestos with suitable binder...", and when doing you calculations insure your flange design has a small amount of excess bolting above AbMin, say 5 to 10%. In small diameter flanges you may have a great deal of excess bolting anyway due to other considerations.

Yes it's a ASME flange. So the calculation isn't really necessary, am I right? But I want to include the calculation into my calculation report anyway, since the other flanges are all NON-ASME flanges and need verification. For all other flanges I have O-ring Gaskets.
I don't have a manufacturer, since the client is putting the gasket in question on the valve.
I'll go with the tipp of SnTMan.

Word to the wise - DO NOT perform the Appendix 2 calculation for a standard flange. You may not like the results...
