I've ruined a few mild steel parts by welding them after a braze/bronze welded repair had been done previously. Cracking and general brittleness were the result.

I'm sure I've read reasonably authoritative information that said it's a well known problem if ANY bronze is present before welding, it's due to intergranular penetration by remaining bronze/brass, and a forbidden practice.
But I can't find a single reference today.

Does anyone know any good references sources?

thanks

Look under liquid metal embrittlement or copper contamination of welds in steel.
