Florida Friends:
I heard the new law has been signed requiring building inspections on certain types of structures after 30 years. I do not know the specifics- but am interested in hearing how structural firms are preparing to ramp up to take on all this new work.

As far as I am aware, no new law has been signed in Florida. The state legislature could not agree between the house and the senate on the proposed recertification bill, and therefore the statewide building recertification bill died on the floor.

The only current building recertifications (that I am aware of) are in Miami-Dade County and Broward County. These two jurisdictions have 40 year recertification requirements (and every 10 years thereafter) for Structural and Electrical. There may be some smaller municipalities that also have some sort of recertification requirement, but there are none in the counties and cities that I most often work in.
