thanks for that...i was hoping for a pointer to standards/design guides that are different from ordinary panels

There are no standards for the fire water pump panel construction as such. The only thing that is often imposed by specifiers is that the panel should be os 2mm( min) sheet steel/stainless steel and that it has a IP 54 rating.

NFPA 79 is often generically used for control panels in USA.
NFPA 20 is dealing with fire pumps.
