Dear All

I am attempting FEM of a compressor crankshaft having ball bearings as main bearings.

Can some body help me in modelling the bearing?

What constraints are to be used for ball bearings (e.g. all dispacements blocked, all rotations are blocked ?)

I would be grateful if somebody can cite a paper or book reference as well

and what is your analysis supposed to be telling you?

I would be doing linear static analysis of the crankshaft.

It's common just to apply a simple point support (no rotational restraint) at the position of the centre of the bearing. Only consider stresses away from the point support.

BADVE,

A good way to model radial bearings may be to fix radial movement and allow tangential and axial movement. This means assigning infinite stiffness to the bearing supports.
