feature manager design tree problem

I have come across a new problem everyone... hopefully you can help.

I have situated my recent dilema within PDMworks (thanks to everyvody that helped with my last post)
but now a new problem has arose. When I check out an assembly from my vault the assembly file loads but the parts that make up the assy don't show up but in the feature manager on the left shows the parts but they are grayed out. Simply put how do I "re-llink" the files. I have tried set to resolve but nothing happens.

Please note: I am not using PDM works.

That said, I often have this problem. It seems that when a assembly is opened, SW creates a temp files for each part in the assembly, sometimes, if these temp files are still "open", I have the same problem that you have in being unable to access these parts. If this is the case, you should try to delete out the temp files (they often begin with a ~), the re-open the assembly.

Another thing that may have happened is that you checked a box saying "don't show this messege again" to a messege stating that it cannot find a part/assembly. If you have done this this will be the result.

This could happen if you checked the files into the vault then deleted the files from the various folders in the network that they were referencing. Or you could have moved the folders that they were once referencing. To fix this you will have to click on the grayed out parts and re-reference them to their proper locations.

Are you aware on the principle that PDM works bases on the fact that File references first look in the directory they are in for referenced files, then if it cannot find them it will look in the last saved place. If you have multiple people working on files in the network, make sure you're mapped drive letters are the same, or avoid the mapped drive letters all together. I prefer not to use PDM works with files stored on the network, and let PDMW do the storage. Create local files in clumps and don't get directory happy. If you have toolbox, that another story, make sure your toolbox is on the network and you are not checking them into PDMW is my setup. There are many options, you just need to be aware of how everything is connected. Use some block diagrams to help everyone get on the same page. If you're the only one, think ahead to more users. When pulling a assembly or a part out of pdmworks it asks if you want all the children. If you do not check yes by default it only brings out what you asked for.
