Hi all,

I'm developing a FE model of the human hand and wrist. using the Truegrid meshing software right now to mesh the individual bone surfaces. Will then use ABAQUS for analysis.

I'm having difficulty creating meshes with separate layers for the cortical and cancellous bone layers. If anyone has ever used Truegrid for generating meshes of anatomical structures, I'd appreciate any advice. For that matter, I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's had experience in FEA of human anatomy.

Thanks,
Max

Max,

Not sure if this is applicable in TrueGrid (I've never used it), but in Abaqus you will need to define the cortical and cancellous bone as separate partitions (which basically splits up the part into sections which you can then apply different meshes/properties/loading conditions/etc. on) and then apply separate material properties to each.
