Hello everybody,

I would like to ask you for your tips. Our company is currently designing automatical machine which has to check if the screw is bended or not. Based on the results and tolerances the screws have to be sorted out onto the OK or NOK conveyor. At this device we should also check screw head with the Keyence camera because of possible scratch (damage). The machine should be as simple as possible to avoid the failures and of course as fast as possible :) Our current proposal is:

1. Feeding of screws and orientation into the vertical position is solved.
2. Transfer of screws by vibrating conveyor
3. Inspection station as you can see in the attached video ( Bending is checked by Keyence MEasurement System (screw has to be rotated - 720°). Above installed camera is checking the screw head.
4. After the inspection are the screws transfered on the slide into the conveyor intended for OK/NOK parts.

Inspected screws: 140-500mm / Diameter 6, 8 and 10mm

If any opinion, design improvement tips or improvement tips how to speed up the cycle I´ll be very happy [glasses]

Thank you guys.

Best Regards

Pavel Z.

Why not just drop the screw into a deep hole that is slightly larger than the maximum allowable bend? If it goes in it is straight enough. If it doesn't fit it isn't straight enough?

What are the requirements and accuracy?
What is checking the bending, the camera?
Are the lengths always known prior to testing?

I think you're only checking for any bending above the rollers with this concept.
If you rotate the head, you can use a second camera to see if the other end of the screw wobbles. The amount of wobble indicates the degree of bend.

Are the screw threads "pointed" like a wood screw or self-tapping thread?

Are they straight like a classic machine thread?
