I am designing a battery tray and want to use ASTM A653 (Deep draw) grade of sheet stock for this part. The depth of the part is 12mm. However, I believe when the part is complete I will be left with exposed edges from when the part was blanked out from the 2 mm thick sheet stock.

Will I need to touch the edges of the part to protect it from corrosion or will the zinc plate self heal over the 2mm edge?

A battery tray to contain spills of electrolyte?

Acidic electrolyte?

Zinc plated is not a good choice.

These are sealed lithium modules. I don't think there is much risk of that but you never know.

My thought is that I will need to powder coat the part to completely sure that the part does not corrode but that impacts design to cost.

There is some protection of cut edges by the zinc coating on adjacent sides of the steel sheet.
