Hello All-

I created a part (WF2), and made the inner bore, Datum A (I attached it to the inner bore Ø dimension). Showing it on the drawing gives me the dimension on one side of the Ø, and the datum attached to the opposite side. In this particular situation, it looks bad. Is there any way to attach the Datum to the dimension itself, or to the witness line? I believe that this is OK in practice as far as GD & T is concerned, so I'm almost positive it should be possible.

Thanks for any help.

Can you post an image of what you are talking about?

Yes, I see now. That is controlled in the drawing detail (.dtl) file. The specific option name escapes me but the option value you want is ANSI, not ISO.

Poke around and find your .dtl file. The option should stand right out.

Sorry, I don't have Pro/E available here. I'll look thru my files at home tonight and if I find the option I'll post it.

vc66,

Try these options in your drawing detail (.dtl) file

gtol_datums STD_ASME
gtol_dim_placement ON_BOTTOM
new_iso_set_datums NO
asme_dtm_on_dia_dim_gtol ON_GTOL

They were from Pro/E 2001 but they will probably still work. gtol_datums is the option i think you are looking for.

Hi fighterpilot-

No good. I have all those enabled as shown, and it still seems that I can't move the datum. Maybe it will only work with new parts/drawings going forward.

Oh well. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your time, and I'll let you know how I make out.

Regards,

V

Did you try to show/create the dimension again? The changes only take effect on newly shown items.

One other thing. Try deleting the datum in the model and recreating it, this time attaching it to the dimension, not the surface.

Now it seems that it'll show under a GTOL FCF but no under the dimension itself... Hmmm

I deleted the datum, and recreated it, and same situation.
