Simply awesome. there were challenges with the vancouver "brock commons" 18 level CLT building, but the lateral system was simple and conventional concrete. a timber lateral solution for an 18 level building is cutting edge.
I truly believe in advanced timber.
1) it is much greener of a solution.
2) the use of timber forces architectural detail that protects the structure, rather than relying on the limited (30-50yr) durability of steel and concrete exposed to harsh conditions.
These buildings are detailed in a way that with light maintenance, they may be standing in 1000 years. conventional reinforced concrete allows lazy architectural details that lead to degradation of the primary structure, and will need to be rebuilt/torn down after 50 or 100 years.
