Hello,

Please recommend for materials of construction for a crude (28.7 deg. API) prefractionation tower operating at 4 barg and 150 C (top) 230 C (bottom), carbon steel with a large corrosion allowance or use carbon steel with ss clad?

regards,
roker

Roker,

It certainly depends on crude corrosivity, i.e. salts, water, naphthenic acid, H2S and other aggressive agents. Cladding is - as far as I know - very acceptable and effective approach. But I would definitely suggest you to consult experienced corrosion engineers and to examine the worst possible scenario regarding feed quality and corrosion mechanisms that may occur.

Regards,
