Hi,

I'm currently trying to design an enclosure to withstand an explosion. But since my company had refused to purchase a Cosmosworks software, I'm stuck with the express version. Anyway, I had done the design for the body with 4 constraints at each of the corners on the base of the box. Since the express version cannot do an analysis on an assembly, I had to "stress" the cover separately. But these boxes normally will have multiple bolts to secure the cover to the body. So my question is whether I have to apply constraints to the bolt holes on the mating point between the cover and body?

Please help

Thanks

I'm familiar with COSMOS express and it's inability to do assemblies but I'm having trouble understanding your question.

When i had to use COSMOS express, I would model an assembly as a part. You could use one of two methods for your bolt holes. Model a cylinder at the interface to simulate the bolt and connection or just leave this out all together and have any bolted surfaces touch. Both these techniques can be useful but do have pitfalls. Alas its about all you can do with the package you have.

Hi,
at this point, I do believe CE won't be of any utility. Since the bolted connections definitely can't be accurately reproduced by CE, IMO you should hand-calc it with Roark-Young and APPROPRIATE considerations about edge boundary conditions on your plates...
Please, remember that CE was thought of as a VERY simple chack tool for VERY simple load conditions. NEVER try to "stretch out" its applicability field or you may create a disaster...

Regards
