is it possible to measure the temperature of continuous stream of cast iron from pressurized pouring furnace spout with a contact sensor ( B or N type ?? ). Non Contact is not an option because of its uncertainty in calibration and difficulties with slag etc.

If it is possible , using a contact sensor to measure the temperature of the stream continuously, does anyone know of any company specializing in this field??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

your justification for avoiding non-contact sensing are equally prohibitive of contact types

Slag cover in cast iron metal does not present an error in temperature measurement. You can always see clear liquid metal.

What advantage do you get by continuously monitoring the stream. Instead measure the temperature before pouring and after completion of pouring. This will give you a fairly accurate idea of metal temperature.

As i mentioned, the idea here is to try to measure the temperature of Pressurized Pouring Furnace Exit Spout continuously.(why not measure the stream before and after pouring , that i cant ask my manager, because he seems to think that needs more labor etc). After doing some research on web and from my experience of contact sensors , i think , i m going to have to drop the idea of measuring the stream temperature with a contact sensor (i couldn't even find a single company , which is selling these kind of customized solutions, if anyone knows such company/companies, please let me know so that i can contact them and ask for further help ).

Though, there are lot of companies which are selling the sensors (OMEGA to start with and a lot other)

How accurate do you need to be? I would think that a non-contact approach would get you reasonable info. Get a precision device that is rated for high temp environment and has a fast response time.

The best non contact sensor in my opinion are your eyes. They can never fail, and with experience many decisons are taken intutively. Now I have stopped looking at liquid metal after nearly 30 years of working in close proximity .
