Hi,

In COMPRESS Nozzle Dialog "Add ASME B16.5/B16.47 Flange" there is a check box for "consider external loadings on flange MAWP rating".

How does COMPRESS adjust standard flange MAWPs for external loads?

Thank you!

Thank you, doct9966!

I searched through COMPRESS's Help and this Forum but I couldn't find the answer.

I should have searched also through Codeware web site's FAQ prior to coming here.

Thank you again.

Thernmech,

When we consider a flange for external loads we compute the equiv pressure (Peqv). This is then compared with the B16.5/16.47 ratings. This is used typically only when using standard b16.47/16.5 flanges as girth flanges and is not typically applicable to nozzle flanges.

Peqv=P+4W/(PI*G^2)+16M/(PI*G^3) where

P= design pressure inclusive of the static head.
W= Axial acting force
M= Moment
G= Gasket reaction diameter (as defined in ASME S8D1 code)

ABOVE COMMENTS MAY BE HOW COMPRESS COMPUTES THE SAME. Hope this helps.
