Concrete Repair Question 1

Please see the attached pic. This is the truck dock side of a building where we are doing other repairs. We are going to install an edge angle after the patching, cathodic galv etc. My question is about the vertical portion of this patch. The patch is only ¾” deep and has no rebar. The contractor is wondering if he can simply hand patch it without an reinforcement. I am thinking of having them remove an 1” more of concrete, install a couple of horizontal rebars and hold them in place with stainless steel rods we already have on site (they are 1/8” diameter).

So the questions is, will a simple hand patch be enough for a ¾” deep repair. Thanks,

I can't see that here rebar would do you much good. From the looks of the scrapes from vehicles, I would invest in bollards or the edge angle you mentioned - or better truck drivers.

I agree that engaging reinforcing adds very little advantage here. Call your Sika representative and he/she can recommend a repair mortar.

Or pour an additional 1" from the wall, after a good sand blasting and application of a bonding agent.

Don't remove sound concrete. Do as Jed says, use an appropriate repair mortar, in accordance with the instructions.

Shoot pins into the sound concrete. String rebar tie wire between the pins. Use quality repair mortar (SikaTop 122 or similar)
