Hello everyone. I'm new in here and new to structural engineering. I need help on welding 1st floor column rebar to starter bar (300mm) but I'd like to make this question for general rebar welding. If you can please give me answers from Eurocode or BS. ACI will help me to understand the procedure, I believe ;)
1...What is the min welding length
2...What type of welding? Electric or any other type? Fillet or groove?
3...Can you give me website links for note/worked example?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hmmmmmmmm
Where I live we don't weld them, only tight them (Efficiently) to the new bars.

300 mm starter bars for new floor seams short for me?
You should maintain the required anchorage length.

Yes 'fcu45', its the common practice but in this particular situation we need welding as the lap length is too short, ie 300mm! We can chip the column's top bit till required lap lenth buts its costly + time consuming. Best solution so far is welding...

So..any suggestions on welding please??

I'm not familiar with grades of reinforcing steel used where you are, but A615 is common here and not considered to be easily weldable. You need low carbon content to be readily weldable.

Sorry...Grade is 60ksi. A615 is the material spec.

I agree with bpstruct
Regarding the loss of time, it has been already 5 days since you posted the question.

if you meet rebar with yield strength 400 Mpa or more, and want to do welding, you should read "AWS D1.4 structural welding code - reinforcing steel"..in my opinion, length of starter bar for column equals to 40*Diameter
